The student council at Bertha Heid Elementary School sponsored a penny drive that produced over $150 for the Ronald McDonald House in Denver. Mrs. Boyd's third-graders brought in 6,597 pennies for the drive, the most in of any class in the school. The Ronald McDonald House is a temporary "home-away-from-home" for families to find rest, support and time away from hospital procedures and routines, so they are able to have their needs met and can focus their energies on their child. Families staying at the House must have a child under age 18 who is receiving treatment or hospitalized at a nearby hospital. Families at the House are most commonly receiving treatment for cancer, heart problems, premature newborns, transplants, respiratory problems or trauma. |
