Mapleton Public Schools' accurate and responsible accounting and reporting practices have earned the district a pair of awards from two outside school and government business groups.
Mapleton was recognized by the Association of School Business Officials as having achieved a "high standard of financial reporting," and was awarded the organization's "Certificate of Excellence."
In addition, Don Herman, Mapleton's Chief Financial Officer, received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association for Mapleton's "comprehensive annual financial report." The award is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting.
The announcement of the awards came at a Mapleton Board of Education business meeting December 10, 2002.
"This is a clear signal to the Mapleton community that they can be sure their tax dollars are going where they're supposed to," said Charlotte Scarpella, Mapleton's superintendent.
Herman is credited with meeting the high standards that both awards demand.
"This demonstrates Mapleton's commitment to a constructive spirit of full disclosure in our accounting and financial reporting," Herman said.
