The Mapleton Board of Education was joined by teachers, community members, administrators, and educators from neighboring districts to welcome the district's new superintendent, Charlotte Scarpella.
Scarpella returned to Mapleton in 2001 as the director for elementary learning services before getting the district's top post as of August 1, 2001. She attended several schools in the district before finishing high school at Marycrest in Denver. She began her student and professional teaching in the district.
Though the day was marred by the tragedies in Manhattan and Washington, D.C., Scarpella said her first month in the position has been enjoyable.
"I keep wondering what I'm not doing, because everyone told me this wouldn't be much fun. I'm having a lot of fun," Scarpella said.
