Skyview High School graduate killed in action

Mapleton Public Schools Superintendent Charlotte Scarpella issued the following statement after learning of the death of Skyview High School graduate Lance Cpl. Thomas Slocum:

"Thomas Slocum graduated from Skyview High School in 1998. He was a strong member of the student body, and we are grateful to have had the opportunity to work with him in our school district for 13 years.

"Anything which profoundly affects our community obviously affects the school district. I know this is a difficult time for his family, and we will support them any way we can -- including seeking their permission before we issue additional information about their son."
