The Mapleton Board of Education released on July 11 the names of the five semifinalist candidates for superintendent. Following is the list of the semifinalist candidates and the position each currently holds.
Dr. Veronica Benavidez
Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education, Boulder Valley School District
Dr. Donald Fielder
V.P. of Development, Edison Schools
Dr. John Hefty
Superintendent, Brighton School District
Ms. Peg Portscheller
Director of Policy Initiatives, McREL
Ms. Charlotte
Scarpella
Executive Director of Learning Services, Mapleton Public Schools
The board announced the semifinalists after reviewing the applications of 16 candidates, said Patty Schmid, Mapleton's board president.
"We had a strong list of candidates," Schmid said.
The board will interview each of the semifinalists and name a slate of finalists July 17. The finalists will interview with groups representing the Mapleton community July 18. The board has expressed its desire to offer the position to its top candidate by July 20, and have a new superintendent in place by August 15.
