York student selected as regional winner in photojournalism
project
Mary
McDonough, a student at York Middle School, was selected as one of the winners
for Home of the Free™, a photojournalism project sponsored by the Rocky Mountain
News and Washington Mutual. Over 20 metro area schools participated in the project;
four other students from York entered photos in the contest.
The Home of the Free™ project gives seventh and eighth grade students the assignment
to document the daily activities of local civil servants, community leaders and
government officials. This is the first year that the program has been offered
in Denver.
Mary's photo of the Honorable Charles Rose, City of Thornton Courts, was a regional
winner. Her photo, along with those of all the other regional winners from the
project, will be on display at the Colorado History Museum beginning November
14. A winner from each of the four regions (Denver, New York, New Jersey and Chicago)
will be invited on a trip to Washington, D.C., to tour the nation's capitol and
to attend the Home of the Free National Exhibition.
