Make a Difference – Donate Today!

Students hope that by demonstrating how every hand helps when it comes to service, they can also show how every dollar helps when it comes to funding the materials necessary for learning.

Fund raising efforts are now underway and the District has identified three areas of immediate, short-term needs.

Supplies and Materials

Math Textbooks

“Textbooks in our math class are very outdated. And, we don’t have a take-home set, which makes studying hard. My math teacher tries hard to get us updated material to learn from, and I know I’m getting a great education, but it would be nice to have an updated math textbook, and I know my teacher would appreciate it, too. We’re not asking for new buildings or anything big. We’d just like to be able to learn from an updated textbook.”

- Brandon, Welby

Mapleton’s math text books are outdated. Right now, 400 copies of the newer version are needed. Used copies of the book Mapleton would like cost just $68 per book.

Make a Difference…

A donation of $1,564 can provide an entire classroom of Mapleton students with updated math textbooks. When we invest in our students, we in turn invest in our community.

A donation of just $68 can purchase one copy of the math textbook, and help better the entire Mapleton community one student at a time.

Science Lab Kits

“In science we don’t do enough labs. My school just can’t afford to let us. We have enough beakers and goggles and things like that, but we don’t have any chemicals. I’m a hands-on learner in a hands-on school; unfortunately, we don’t have enough money to keep it that way.”

- Aspen, MESA

“In my science class we usually only have enough supplies to perform an experiment once, instead of several times like the lab usually requires. If your experiment goes wrong the first time, you’re out of luck. You end up just reading about an experiment instead of getting the opportunity to actually do it and learn from it.”

- Sam, GLA

Mapleton Public Schools uses a FOSS (Full Option Science System) kit for all science classes. FOSS kits were created by professionals and experts who believe that students learn science best by doing science. FOSS creators guarantee that a well maintained FOSS module can serve student after student, class after class, year after year. But to ensure that kind of lifespan, the consumable materials in the FOSS kits must be replenished regularly.

Mapleton currently needs 10 lab kits to keep students on a path of academic excellence. The lab kits cost $2,500 each, and will be used by current and future students at every school in the district.

Your gift of $2,500 can purchase one of these much-needed kits and help keep Mapleton students of the path of success.

Your gift of $1,250 will fund half of the cost of a science kit, helping us in our quest to keep science a hands-on learning experience for Mapleton students.

A generous gift of $500 brings us one step closer to purchasing a much-need academic resource.

Graphing Calculators

“Graphing calculators are a big need in all schools. We barely have a full classroom set, and we cannot take them home, so it’s very hard to actually learn the material when we can’t use the tools necessary for learning on a regular basis. It also becomes very hard to get your hands on a calculator come ACT and SAT time. We’ve been preparing for these tests all year, and it’s sad that the only thing keeping me from a high ACT score is a calculator.”

- Edward, Skyview

Students use graphing calculators to learn linear, quadratic and exponential regression – among other algebraic expressions- that prepare them for advanced high school math and college math. Knowing how to use a graphing calculator is also essential to achieving competitive SAT and ACT scores. However, with almost 70 percent of Mapleton students on free or reduced lunch, purchasing a graphing calculator is beyond the means of our students. But that doesn’t mean Mapleton students should be denied access to one.

After having close to a 100 percent college enrollment rate in 2007, Mapleton students deserve this investment to ensure their academic success.

Immediate Safety Needs

Every building the Mapleton School District is using today was built between 1950 and 1963. Welby New Technology was renovated in 2006, but the other nine buildings have only received minor upgrades. The immediate safety needs students would like to address as a part of the Make a Difference campaign include security cameras for three schools which do not have line of sight visibility to the front entrances and bus cameras. With the recent drop in price of surveillance equipment, Mapleton students agree that there is no better way to provide for both student and parent security.

Mapleton would also fund much needed fire alarm repairs in all schools.

Every dollar contributed to these projects helps Mapleton continue to provide a safe, secure and healthy learning environment for the students of your community.

Maintain Essential Student Programs

Quality athletic and fine arts programs are essential parts to the development of a well-rounded student. This area of resource will go to athletic programs, uniforms, the purchase of musical instruments and instrument repair. Enriching field trips will also be supported in this area. Just $250 can send a classroom full of students on a field trip that could shape their academic career for years to come. Money from this area will also go to support Mapleton’s Stage Door Players. Students dedicate hours of their time every year to produce plays and musicals for the entire community to enjoy. This truly magical experience can only be made possible with your generous donations.
