Mapleton Expeditionary School of the Arts (MESA)
"Unlocking Learning through the Arts"
Based on the Expeditionary Learning model of instruction, MESA students expand their knowledge through the use of art and creativity. Linked firmly with high-quality, college preparatory instruction, MESA students embark on in-depth learning expeditions that explore relevant topics. Through various art forms, students demonstrate their learning throughout the year. Intensives - 8-day courses offered during the school year - offer MESA students the opportunity to study a specific subject or art form in depth.
MESA is characterized by:
- Academic success and college preparedness.
- Use of visual arts, drama, and music to expand student mastery of the core subjects of English, social studies, science, and math.
- Students who demonstrate learning in humanities, science and math through public presentations of portfolios that incorporate the arts.
- Close partnerships with students and their families that include multi-year relationships between students and teachers.
