Welby Montessori School (PK-6)
"A Child-Centered Approach - The Montessori Way"
At Welby Montessori, students choose their work from a
carefully prepared environment that invites curiosity and promotes investigation
and exploration. Traditional teacher-directed activities are limited, as
students work from individualized work plans that include lessons and learning
activities the meet the child's interest as well as state standards. Lessons
focused on the specialized materials are given in small groups or on an
individualized basis. It is Montessori philosophy that the specific activity a
student is drawn to is the learning experience they are to practice. Students
are allowed to explore, experience and investigate each lesson plan until their
learning needs are met. This highly structured school environment focuses on
the five distinct areas of the Montessori program: practical life, sensorial,
mathematics, language arts and culture.
Welby Montessori is characterized by:
- Thoughtfully designed learning environments in multi-aged classrooms.
- Self-directed learning projects for students.
- Reciprocal relationships between families, staff, students, and community.
- Commitment to each child's progression of social awareness and moral learning.
- The development of self-discipline, self-motivation and a joy of learning.
