Welby Montessori School (PK-6)
"A Child-Centered Approach - The Montessori Way"
At Welby Montessori, students are offered multi-age classrooms with specialized educational materials to foster independence and self-paced learning. Far different from a traditional learning environment, the school is focused on the five distinct areas of the Montessori program: practical life, sensorial, mathematics, language arts and culture.
Students reach their full potential through individualized instruction, tailored to their personal strengths as they work to meet District and State academic standards through a Montessori curriculum.
Students of different ages are in the same classrooms choosing their work from carefully prepared environments that invite curiosity and promote investigation and exploration. Students are encouraged to collaborate in their learning during extended work cycles. Lessons focused on specialized materials are presented to individual students or in small groups. In a Montessori school, there is very little whole-group teacher-directed instruction and textbook learning.
The Montessori philosophy recognizes that children are drawn to materials that pique their interest. Students are allowed to explore, experience and investigate works at their own pace.
