No Child Left Behind
Requirements under Federal Law

Teacher Qualifications:
Federal Laws have created higher standards for teacher qualifications in public schools across the United States. The US Department of Education now defines minimum standards for the education and licensing of teachers and requires that local school districts work to insure that all teachers in core subject areas meet the definition of "highly qualified."

Mapleton teachers already largely meet or exceed the federal requirements. However, all parents of children attending school districts receiving federal aid (Title I funding) have the right to know the professional qualifications of the classroom teachers who instruct their children. The school district is required to provide this information to you in a timely manner.

To request information about a teacher's qualifications, please contact Jamie Kane at 303-853-1009.

Annual Measurable Achievement Objectives for English Language Learners:
Mapleton Public Schools is strongly committed to progressing and transitioning English Language Learners (ELL) to proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and listening in English. This letter is to inform you of the results of the district's program in meeting the Annual Measurable Achievement Objectives (AMAO) for ELL students. Districts are evaluated annually on the following three objectives:

  1. Annual ELL students progress of learning English as measured by: Colorado English Language Assessment (CELA)
  2. Progress of the percentage of ELL students who become proficient in English as measured by CELA
  3. Academic targets in reading and mathematics as measured by the Colorado Student Assessment Program (CSAP)

Mapleton did not meet any of the three AMAO objectives this year. We are continuing to support teachers by providing quality training that will promote our ELL students' annual progress in English and their academic success.

For more information regarding this information, please contact the School Director at your child's school.
