LiveWell@School in Mapleton!
In 2012, Mapleton Public Schools entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with LiveWell Colorado.
Mapleton Public Schools joined LiveWell and partner organizations in the movement to reduce Colorado’s childhood obesity rates by improving the nutritional value of school meals. By completing the services in the LiveWell@School Food Initiative, Mapleton Public Schools will stand as a statewide and national example of Districts that have successfully implemented scratch-cooked student meals.
Schools offer a unique opportunity to improve children’s access to the nutrition necessary for their growing minds and bodies. The goal of LiveWell@School Food Initiative is to ensure all children in Colorado have access to and choose healthy food at school by 2022 through a multi-faceted approach using four critical components:
- School Meal Assessment
- Culinary Workshops
- On-Site Chef Consultant Services
- Program Evaluations
Turning up the Health!
Nutrition Services is Heating things the Healthy way with LiveWell!
Home cooked penne with meat sauce, mac n' cheese, chicken noodle soup, chicken pesto with penne, meaty mouthwatering lasagna and chicken parmesan sandwich are just a few of the recipes taking Mapleton’s lunch menus from expected to extraordinary.
Mapleton has long held the belief that children who eat well, learn well. A carefully-planned meal program driven by an innovative “from scratch” movement has been bringing healthy options to Mapleton’s cafeterias for several years. Foods are grilled or baked instead of fried.
A partnership with LiveWell Colorado helped propel Mapleton in the right direction to ensure all children have access to and choose healthy food at school.
