With steel framework in place throughout Trailside Academy, crews are pouring the cement base on the first and second floor. Exposed wooden beams are now installed throughout most of the building, along with roofing and HVAC materials. Sheathing continues to be added to the exterior of the building and spray insulation has been applied to select walls. Trailside Academy will open to serve students in preschool through eighth grade in August 2019.

In August 2019, Trailside Academy will open to serve students in preschool through eighth grade. Valley View, a K-8 school located near 70th Avenue and Broadway, will close at the end of the school year so the building may be demolished in preparation for a much-needed rebuild. Students and staff currently enrolled at Valley View will transition to Trailside Academy and continue the school’s Workshop instructional model.

In November, the school director at Valley View, Ms. Toni Booth, transitioned to a new role in Mapleton’s Learning Services Department. Ms. Laura Nelson now serves as Valley View’s school director and will open Trailside in August. Ms. Nelson is a master educator and has been in Mapleton for 16 years. She most recently served as the school director at York International School, a K-12, and Adventure Elementary, a K-6. Ms. Nelson has been a part of the Trailside design process since the beginning and is excited to help transition the Valley View community to the new school building, as well as welcome new families to Mapleton. Mapleton will submit a Building Excellent School Today (BEST) grant in February in hopes of securing additional funds to assist with the Valley View rebuild.
