It is exhilarating to take an active leadership role promoting education as Director at Monterey K-8 Community School. I have extensive principal experience in Colorado. Throughout my successful career in education, my passion for student success, coupled with my strong desire to share exemplary teaching practices led to numerous opportunities serving the educational community with school innovation, restructuring, and increased student achievement. During my tenure as a classroom teacher, I found it very rewarding to serve as a Kindergarten, outdoor education, and physical education teacher as well as mentor many outstanding teachers /administrators. As an administrator with a passion for educating the whole child, I find great enjoyment and energy from instructional leadership, fostering a professional, collegial organization committed to reaching each child’s full potential.

Working with the outstanding staff and families of Monterey Elementary School to develop each and every child to their full potential is the most rewarding part of my job. The highlight of the day, however, is greeting the smiling children as they arrive to school each day happy and eager to learn.

As the middle child of five boys raised in a blue-collar household, I learned at an early age the value of education, hard work and life-long learning. After earning a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education, I obtained a Master’s Degree in Supervision and Instruction, and possess numerous endorsements and certifications.

Living in Colorado is arguably the “finest state”… and how fortunate I am to be able to live and work in the Denver metropolitan area, and work for the best school district in the state! I am blessed with three daughters and three healthy grandchildren. I love spending my free time with family and friends, enjoying the great outdoors.

I am thrilled to be a part of the Mapleton Community and to have an opportunity to partner with the families and students at Monterey Community School.  With over two decades of experience as an educator in the state of Colorado, I have gained invaluable experience as a classroom teacher, instructional leader and administrator.  Through these experiences, I have developed a depth of knowledge in exemplary teaching practice and a strong passion for providing students with opportunities to pursue their dreams.

I feel privileged to be able to work with the students and staff at Monterey Community School which continues to be a highlight for me daily.  Our staff works tirelessly to meet the individual needs of students while cultivating a culture of excitement for learning with the values and beliefs that ensure students will become contributing members of society and productive members within an ever-changing world.

At an early age, I learned the value of family and learning from others growing up with five brothers and four sisters.  My childhood experiences have allowed me to be able to embrace new challenges and enjoy experiences as they come my way.   Early on in my career, I obtained a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and taught at both the primary and intermediate level for fourteen years.  Following this experience, I obtained a master’s Degree in Administrative Leadership from the University of Colorado at Denver which enhanced my experience as a leader, coach, and consultant for school districts across Colorado and Florida.

As a native to Colorado, my heart belongs here.   For many years, I have enjoyed hiking, four-wheeling and spending time in Colorado’s great outdoors with my friends and family.  My husband and I share many fond memories with our six children as we enjoy spending time outdoors, barbecuing and sitting around a large firepit reminiscing over stories we share together as a family.

Hello! This is my 2nd year as Monterey Community School’s art teacher! This is my 6th year working with students aged from 2-18. Originally from Maryland and Pennsylvania, I began college in Philadelphia at Tyler School of Art before transferring to Metropolitan State University where I earned my BFA in 2014. I love making art, reading, watching movies, & backpacking. I choose to be an art educator because of my passion for working with kids and the huge influence art has in my life and in the world. My passion for the arts began in elementary and middle school classrooms much like the one I teach in today. I believe using your imagination is an important and powerful tool that children innately develop at an early age. Encouraging students to tell stories and find unique ways to visually communicate their ideas not only builds on a strong imagination but allows them to believe in the power of sharing their voice. Above all, I believe that all students are artists and offer them real choices for responding to their own ideas and interests through the making of TAB art.
