Scope of Work

  • The master plan was created with the help of outdoor education experts, partner organizations, students, families, staff and community members. The 2.8 acres of open spaces surrounding Welby's school building will feature demonstration gardens, outdoor classrooms, and a history walk. These additions will enrich learning experiences for all children and closely align with the school’s Expeditionary Learning model.

    Construction has begun on Welby Community School’s Learning Park!

    Site grading for walkways is complete and crews have begun to pour concrete for the sidewalk paths. The 2.8 acres of open spaces surrounding Welby's school building will feature demonstration gardens, outdoor classrooms, and a history walk. These additions will enrich learning experiences for all children and closely align with the school’s Expeditionary Learning model. 

    Welby’s Learning Park is scheduled to be complete November 2019!

    • At Welby Community School, the Welby Learning Park is well underway! Fences have been installed around the field for site grading.
    • Throughout the construction of the learning park, the Big Green learning garden, playground, and basketball courts will remain open for student use.
    • For your safety, please remain mindful of the fencing as crews continue their exciting work on our one-of-a-kind outdoor learning space. Completion of the park remains on schedule for November 2019.

    • Interpretive signage package and decorative memorial bench designs are being prepared. 
    • Site grading for concrete walkways is complete with concrete flatwork scheduled to begin shortly.
    • The Welby Learning Park is scheduled to be completed by November 2019.

    • Excitement for Welby Community School’s Learning Park is building with earthmovers scheduled to start work this summer!
    • Mapleton’s Board of Education approved the selection of Designscapes Colorado, Inc. as the general contractor to construct the outdoor learning space in accordance with the master plan design.
    • With support from multiple Adams County Open Space grants, Welby’s Outdoor Learning Park will be the district’s first – but certainly not last – nature-based outdoor play and learning space.
