Jessie Massey, Director
Ms. Massey is a Denver native, but she explored the East Coast in college, graduating from Colgate University with a degree in Spanish and a minor in Educational Studies. She missed our beautiful state and decided to move home to pursue her career in education. She began teaching at Adventure Elementary, another Mapleton school, and taught Spanish Literacy, 1st, 2nd and 4thgrades in her time there. She then joined the community at Valley View K-8, serving as the Instructional Guide and Assistant Director. Most recently, she has been the Assistant Director at Global Intermediate Academy. A lifelong learner, Ms. Massey has a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Denver University and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Regis University.
Ms. Massey is thrilled to return to a school that partners with EL Education. She is excited to work with the staff and families to support students’ development in the 3 Dimensions of Achievement: Mastery of Knowledge and Skills, Character and High-Quality Work.
Ms. Massey and her husband live in Denver with their two daughters, ages 3 and 1, who are also part of the Mapleton Family. Both girls attend Global Primary Academy.
Sarah Kopperud, Assistant Director
Growing up in Wisconsin, Mrs. Kopperud moved to Denver to join the Mapleton family upon graduating from the University in Wisconsin. With a degree in Elementary Education and Spanish, she spent the first several years of her career as a second grade Spanish literacy teacher and has also served as an ELL Interventionist. Mrs. Kopperud pursued additional education at the University of Colorado-Boulder, earning a Master's degree in Educational Equity and Cultural Diversity and an Educational Specialist degree through the University of Colorado-Denver.
Mrs. Kopperud has shared her talents at several schools in Mapleton, serving in leadership positions at Global Leadership Academy, a PK-12 at that time, and Monterey Community School, a K-8. She is known for fostering the growth of successful parent engagement programs and supports both students and teachers with approaches based on Restorative Practices and using data to drive the implementation of the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support .
Mrs. Kopperud is the proud Mapleton parent of a three year old boy who attends Global Primary Academy and a baby girl. Her husband is a social worker with UC Health.
