Final Four Task Force – Key Ideas and Outcomes 

During the Final Four Task Force meetings, conversations that started with the "Final Four" became about so much more.  Mapleton families and community members are interested in repairing/replacing the four remaining school buildings in need of improvement, and also want to address other important district needs to assure Mapleton students continue to receive a high-quality education in safe, healthy school buildings.  In virtual meetings, in person, and in the 2022 community survey, families and community members expressed interest in:

• Enhancing school safety and security
• Maintaining competitive salaries to attract and retain the best staff
• Expanding and enhancing Career Technical Education (CTE) opportunities for students
• Repairing or replacing the four school buildings that have served us well over the years and received only modest upgrades and improvements
• Maintaining Mapleton's current school buildings to assure the buildings remain safe, engaging, and healthy places to learn 

In August, the Board of Education authorized a Mill Levy Override for the November 2022 ballot. Read the press release. 

Mapleton’s Final Four Task Force 
Mapleton is introducing a new Facilities Task Force focused on the “Final Four.”  

What is the “Final Four?” 

The “Final Four” is a conversation focused on the repair and/or replacement of the remaining four buildings that have served us well over the years but have received modest upgrades and improvements. These buildings include: 

• Achieve Academy (K-8)
• Meadow Community School (K-8) 
• Preschool on Poze (Preschool) 
• York International School (K-12) 

When we started on our Facilities Master Plan in 2006, nearly every facility was more than 50 years old, had significant infrastructure problems, and had exceeded useful life.

With the 2010 and 2016 bond programs, along with multiple grants through the Building Excellent Schools Today Program, we have been very fortunate to have the opportunity to renovate or rebuild almost every school building in the district!

In 2010, with the passage of a community-support bond, Mapleton had the match to secure a monumental Building Excellent Schools Today grant from the state to renovate the Skyview Campus and build five new school buildings – Clayton Partnership School, Academy High School, Mapleton Early College High School, Mapleton Expeditionary School of the Arts, and North Valley School for Young Adults.  

 That same year, York International School received a much-needed high school addition and modest renovations throughout the rest of the building, paid for with bond funds.  

 In 2016, with the passage of Mapleton’s largest bond in district history, Mapleton secured matching funds for four BEST grants to support the rebuild of Valley View, Adventure Elementary, and Global Intermediate Academy, and major renovations and additions to Monterey Community School. Bond funds supported the construction of Global Primary Academy, Global Leadership Academy, Explore PreK-8, Trailside Academy, the Mapleton Arts Center, and major renovations and additions to Welby Community School.   

We are now looking at Mapleton’s “Final Four” facilities. Please join us as a member of our Final Four Task Force to help us consider all options when it comes to making these buildings more consistent with the newer building, while also assuring our schools remain safer and more functional for generations to come.  As a part of the task force, you will work alongside other Mapleton families, Mapleton staff, and design and construction teams to discuss current facility issues, explore possible solutions, and make final recommendations regarding our final four buildings.
