Mr. Mike Crawford named new Superintendent of Schools
On Tuesday, April 25, Mapleton’s Board of Education voted unanimously to confirm Mr. Mike Crawford as the new Superintendent of Schools. Mr. Crawford will succeed Superintendent Charlotte Ciancio for the 2024-25 school year.
Mr. Crawford is the Senior Deputy Superintendent and has been with Mapleton for most of his 33 years in public education. He started his career as a teacher and school counselor, and after several years, was appointed school principal. In Mapleton, Mr. Crawford has led several central administrative teams, including Student Support Services, Learning Services, and Human Resources. He currently oversees the implementation of the District’s improvement efforts through Project LIFT as well as all capital improvement efforts.
After the vote, Mr. Crawford shared with the Board and staff in attendance that, “the honor is all mine. Serving this organization in any capacity is a privilege.” Mr. Crawford said he feels extremely fortunate to have landed in Mapleton and understands the great responsibility that comes with the role of Superintendent of Schools.
Ms. Ciancio was appointed Superintendent of Schools in 2001. In January, she shared with the Board her intent to retire from the superintendency in June 2024.
In a special meeting of the Board of Education on Thursday, March 16, the Board selected Mr. Mike Crawford as the sole finalist for Superintendent of Schools to succeed Superintendent Ciancio for the 2024-25 school year.
Mr. Crawford currently serves as the Senior Deputy Superintendent of Mapleton Public Schools.
Following a 14-day waiting period, Board members will take a final vote to approve the sole finalist during their regularly scheduled business meeting on Tuesday, April 25, at 6 p.m., at the Administration Building, 7350 Broadway, Denver, 80221.
Ms. Ciancio was appointed Superintendent of Schools in 2001. In February, she shared with the Board her intent to retire from the superintendency in June 2024.
