    A Community School

Students are at the HEART of everything that we do!

At Monterey, students are at the heart of everything that we do!  We are a proud neighborhood school that encourages our community to walk alongside us as we work together to support and educate the whole child.
We are committed to creating an environment that is inclusive, emotionally, and physically safe where all students are engaged in purposeful learning every day.

Literacy instruction is delivered through a workshop model using the Colorado Academic Standards.   Social studies and science content are embedded into literacy and numeracy units at the elementary level and fully explored at the middle school level.   Math instruction focuses on a rigorous, cohesive progression of fundamental skills, critical thinking, and conceptual understanding.  All academic instruction at Monterey is focused on our mission of growing capable and confident learners that are prepared and able to excel in an ever-changing world.

Learning at Monterey is experiential.  We do not teach from a prescribed curriculum or one size fits all mentality.  Rather, we take time to build our understanding around what a student already knows and needs to know based on state standards.  This allows us to be able to close learning gaps and accelerate our advanced learners to ensure academic growth.

In addition to offering strong core academic instruction, Monterey students K-8 learn social skills and receive emotional support through Second Step.  This nationally recognized resource provides direct instruction to develop life-long skills such as conflict resolution, friendship development, problem-solving skills and critical thinking.

Monterey families are an integral part of our school community.  We welcome collaboration and involvement in our parent-teacher organization and community events such as fall carnivals, dances, Positive Behavior Intervention Supports, field trips, and much more.

We would like to welcome you to Monterey and hope that you will choose to be apart of our Monterey family where we work together to ensure the success of all our students.
