• Spelling Bee

Posted by Jessie Massey on 2/12/2019

The first spelling bee in the new gym was a huge success!  Qualifying students in grades 4-8 practiced tirelessly for the school bee on February 4th. A huge congrats to all students who competed.  The bee was very exciting, with the final few spellers competing in multiple rounds to determine the winner.  Congratulations, Mitzy, on winning for the second year in a row!  We are so proud of Mitzy, Bailey, Aidan and Blaze who represented GIA at the District Bee on February 11th.  We owe a big thank you to Ms. Yarbrough for organizing the bee and coaching our stellar spellers.  Also, thank you Ms. Martinez for pronouncing, and Ms. Schellin, Mr. Valdez and Ms. Massey for judging.  Students, it's never too early to start practicing for next year's bee!

This year's science fair was a huge success!  We saw many interesting projects.  Students investigated intriguing questions, like "Which is smarter, a female or male dog?" and "Which food do mealworms prefer?"  Congratulations to our science fair winners who will compete at the District Science Fair on January 24th!  We are so proud of all our students' hard work and demonstration of the Learner Profile attribute, Inquirers.  A special thank you goes out to Ms. Schellin, who coordinated the science fair and supported students with their projects during countless after school hours.
