Important Announcements about Performing Arts
Friday, July 24, 2020
Dear Mapleton Families:
While we are reopening our schools, we will not be reopening our athletics, performing arts, or Air Force JROTC programs until our students can more safely interact. Additionally, middle school fall sports are canceled.
The first phase of our reopening plan calls for limiting the interactions our students and staff have among and between cohorts. The smaller school cohorts will assure a more protected environment where we can monitor the health of those within the cohort. Our high school and middle school athletics, performing arts, and JROTC programs bring students from all seven high schools together and potentially cross-contaminate these intentionally smaller school cohorts.
The most pressing matter is to get our schools open. Once open, we will be able to monitor the effectiveness of other precautionary measures and help us determine when we can safely resume these important and valuable experiences.
We know this is very disappointing news. Please know that this is a temporary situation. We value the benefits of these programs and are committed to getting them reopened. We are also committed to finding other engaging opportunities for our students to socially connect while staying physically distant.
Again, this a temporary measure as the first phase of our reopening plan is to get back to school. We will resume these activities in the next phase of our plan. We thank you for your patience and continued support of Mapleton Public Schools.

All K-6 and K-8 schools in Mapleton have the opportunity to offer general music to their students.
The Orff approach has historically been a common approach used to teach general music to K-5th grade students in Mapleton, and throughout the country. The Orff approach is a way of teaching students about music that engages their mind and body through a mixture of singing, chanting, movement, drama, and playing of percussion instruments. Improvisation, composition and a child's natural sense of play are encouraged.
General music teachers in our schools are supported by our Performing Arts Department through mentoring, collaboration and professional development opportunities.
Mapleton students in grades 5-12 are invited to participate in the District band, orchestra or choir. As a member of the Mapleton's Performing Arts team, you have the opportunity to participate in exciting performances and competitions all year.
