This year, Mapleton is implementing the use of Otus in all schools. Otus is a data dashboard that allows schools and teacher teams to analyze various levels of data — curriculum-based measures (CBMs) directly from Mapleton’s curriculum resources and third-party data integrations from other assessments such as CMAS. The platform is dynamic and provides real-time information about student learning. Teachers are also able to build assessments in Otus through the question item bank.

In Mapleton, we believe every instructional decision should bring us closer to ensuring every student learns, grows, and thrives. Otus is an important tool in helping us make Mapleton’s vision a reality.

Otus is more than a data platform — it is a way to connect information to action.

Throughout the year, teachers collect a tremendous amount of information about student learning through classroom assessments, observations, district measures, and daily interactions. Otus brings that information together in one place, making it easier to see patterns, celebrate growth, identify student needs, and make informed instructional decisions.

How does Otus help us:

  1. See a complete picture of student learning and growth.

  2. Identify strengths and opportunities for individual students and groups.

  3. Monitor progress over time, including the integration of third-party data (e.g., Progress Learning, CMAS, NWEA, etc.)

  4. Make instructional decisions based on evidence rather than assumptions.

  5. Reduce time spent searching for information by providing one centralized location for student data.

Supporting Instructional Design Teams (IDTs)

One of the greatest benefits of Otus is the way it strengthens the work of our Instructional Design Teams. When teams have access to common, reliable data, they can:

  1. Focus conversations on student learning rather than isolated observations.

  2. Identify trends across classrooms, grade levels, and schools.

  3. Determine which instructional strategies are having the greatest impact.

  4. Design targeted supports and interventions for students who need them.

  5. Celebrate effective practices and learn from one another.

Our Commitment

As we continue implementing Otus, our focus will remain on building educator confidence and capacity. We recognize that learning a new system takes time, and we are committed to providing professional learning, coaching, and ongoing support.

We will begin by implementing CBMs for ELA and Math across grades K–12. Over time, this foundation will expand to include additional curricular resources and supports. As we build our knowledge, skills, and confidence with this new system, our implementation will continue to grow in sophistication and impact.

Technology alone does not improve student learning — great educators do. Otus simply gives us better information to guide the incredible work happening in classrooms every day.

Together, we can use meaningful data to strengthen instruction, support every learner, and ensure our decisions are grounded in what matters most: student success.

What CBM Assessments are in Otus right now?

The curricular resources that Otus partners with that have assessments are in the Otus platform. For some Mapleton curricular resources, Otus is having to build the assessments in the platform. This process will continue throughout the school year. See the chart below for what assessments, by curricular resource, are in Otus right now. This Otus assessment bank will continue to grow throughout the year.

  • Benchmark K-5 – Weekly and Unit Assessments
  • HMH
  • Bridges K-5 – Checkpoints, Unit 1 Screener, Unit Assessments, Number Corner Check-ups
  • Envisions 6 – Topic 1
  • EL Education 2017 & 2025 – K-5 Unit Assessments and Rubrics; 6-8 is currently being developed

Here is what's new and what to expect at each grade band for the 2026-27 school year:

Kindergarten – 2nd Grade

Math CBMs will be administered four times a year. To support teachers in planning, math standard pacing guides are available on the Teaching and Learning SharePoint Site.  Please note: all math priority standards and pacing guides are new for 2026-2027. Link: District Pacing Guides; District Priority Standards

  1. Kindergarten and 1st grade: students take the paper/pencil assessment, and teachers enter scores in Otus.
  2. 2nd grade: taking the assessment in Otus or on paper/pencil is a teacher's choice.

 

3rd – 5th grade

ELA interims will be administered quarterly in ADAM. Regular Math CBMs, in Otus, should be administered according to the curricular resource pacing guide. Quarterly, Math CBMs will serve as interim assessments, with data collected districtwide. To support teachers in planning, math standard pacing guides are available on the Teaching and Learning SharePoint Site. ELA Assessment Dates, in ADAM, for Data Collection

  • District Interim 1: October 5th to 9th -- Makeups October 12th to 14th
  • District Interim 2: Dec 7th to 14th -- Makeups Dec 15th-17th
  • District Interim 3: Feb 22nd to March 1st -- Makeups March 2nd-3rd
  • District Interim 4: May 11th to 18th -- Makeups May 19th-20th

                 

Middle School (Grades 6–8)

ELA Assessment Dates, in ADAM, for Data Collection

  • District Interim 1: October 5th to 9th -- Makeups October 12th to 14th
  • District Interim 2: Dec 7th to 14th -- Makeups Dec 15th-17th
  • District Interim 3: Feb 22nd to March 1st -- Makeups March 2nd-3rd
  • District Interim 4: May 11th to 18th -- Makeups May 19th-20th

High School (Grades 9–11)

  1. Quarterly ELA interim assessments will be administered in ADAM. Q1, Q2, and Q3 are required; Q4 is optional (for high school only).
  2. One math interim assessment (created by HS Math Teacher Leaders) will be given the week of December 7th. This will be given in Otus.
  3. Students will take two P/SAT practice assessments in Progress Learning. Student results will be migrated into the Otus platform:
  4. 1st practice test will be given the week of October 5th.
    1. 9th grade – 8/9 PSAT Practice Test #1 (Math and ELA)
    2. 10th grade – 10th PSAT Practice Test #1 (Math and ELA)
    3. 11th grade – 11th SAT Practice Test #1 (Math and ELA)
  5. 2nd P/SAT practice test will be given the week of February 22nd.
    1. 9th grade – 8/9 PSAT Practice Test #2 (Math and ELA)
    2. 10th grade – 10th PSAT Practice Test #2 (Math and ELA)
    3. 11th grade – 11th SAT Practice Test #2 (Math and ELA)
  6. P/SAT practice test #3 is optional for schools to use at their discretion.

Navigating Otus for Teachers

You will find assessments by clicking on the icon that looks like an A on the left side of the screen:

 

 

There are two folders that contain curriculum-based measures (CBMs):

  • The “can clone” folder contains assessments from your curricular resource that can be edited.
  • The “common assessments (locked)” folder contains the district required CBMs which cannot be edited.

  

Third-Party Data Integrated in Otus

Two archived years of the following data have been integrated into Otus.

  3. CMAS
  4. P/SAT
  5. NWEA
