MEET - Mapleton Educator Empowerment Teams
Mapleton Educator Empowerment Teams, or MEET, is Mapleton's partnership with Arizona State University's Next Education Workforce through the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College.
The Next Education Workforce works with schools to redesign staffing and instruction with the following goals in mind:
- Provide all students with deeper and personalized learning by building teams of educators with distributed expertise.
- Empower educators by developing better ways to enter the profession, specialize, and advance.
Beginning in the 2024-25 school year, Mapleton will have five MEET teams in four schools, Trailside Academy, York International School, Academy High School, and Meadow Community School. MEET aims to improve outcomes for both students and educators in several important ways.
Teams of Educators with Distributed Expertise
ASU's Next Education Workforce believes that teachers should work in teams to lean into their strengths. In this team-teaching model, teachers work together with large groups of students. This ensures students get what they need when they need it from a team of educators with distributed expertise. Team-based staff models in schools have been proven to better meet the needs of students by offering deeper and more personalized instruction.
Shared Responsibility
The core educator team comprises at least two professional educators who share responsibility for teaching a single roster of students. The team works with students for a sustained period of time, creates goals for students and shares accountability for student outcomes. All team members share responsibility for developing and sustaining a safe, supportive and effective team culture.
