Seal of Biliteracy for High School Diplomas

Mapleton Public Schools provides the opportunity for students to attain the Seal of Biliteracy as an additional honor for their high school diploma. The Seal is in recognition of students who can demonstrate a high level of proficiency in English and at least one other world language by high school graduation. A student’s bilingual/biliterate status may be achieved either through formal study of a world language or recognition of an already existing home language.

Obtaining the Seal of Biliteracy is important because it honors both the achievement of language acquisition and the heritage language, culture, and experience that some students may already possess. It will give future employers and post-secondary institutions definitive evidence of a student’s language skills.

The Seal requires students to fulfill all graduation requirements and meet the criteria for demonstrating a high level of proficiency in listening, reading, speaking, and writing in both English and another world language.

The Seal of Biliteracy is open to any Mapleton high school student (grades 9-12) who meets the requirements.

For more information about the specific criteria for the Seal of Biliteracy, please click here: Seal of Biliteracy.

To apply for Mapleton’s Seal of Biliteracy, please complete the Student Application Form.

Seal of Biliteracy application deadline: January 31 of graduating (senior) year.
