After listening and gathering feedback from our families and carefully examining current and ever-evolving guidance from local health officials, Mapleton has determined it best to offer our families a choice of two learning options for the 2020-2021 school year: on-campus learning in a Mapleton school or online learning through Mapleton Online (K-12).

  • Students attend school five days a week in person at their small-by-design schools of choice.

  • Students attend school five days a week at home in a virtual learning environment supported by Mapleton teachers.

The American Academy of Pediatrics “strongly advocates that all policy considerations for the coming school year should start with a goal of having students physically present in school.”  In listening to feedback from our families we know there are many Mapleton families who are very much looking forward to students physically returning to school on-campus when school resumes on Thursday, August 27, 2020.

Mapleton Public Schools will support all families in whatever decision is best for their children, and we will support our employees in navigating the next steps as Mapleton Reopens.

As the situation evolves, we are continuously monitoring this information and adjusting our plans accordingly. We are sharing these preliminary plans with the understanding that as we get closer to the first day of school in August, plans could change based on conditions.

Step 1: Discover

In Mapleton, there are no "neighborhood schools." That means instead of being automatically enrolled in your neighborhood school, we invite you to select from a full menu of schools based on the learning style, interests, and passions of your child. Mapleton offers 18 schools that are small-by-design with different education models, including Expeditionary Learning, International Baccalaureate, STEM, University Partnership, Big Picture, Young Adult, and online, to name a few.  Step 2: Choose

As a District of Choice, we invite you to choose the top three schools you would like your child to attend. Once you are ready to make your choice, you may submit your application for enrollment online.

Specific documents are required when submitting an application for enrollment in Mapleton Public Schools.

How do I know if I need to select a new school for my child if they already attend a Mapleton school?

Students will be automatically rolled up into the next grade at their current school unless your student meets one of the reasons below:

    • The student is in a school that does not offer a continuing grade level as part of their design will need to choose a choose. For example, an 8th grader attending a Prek - 8th grade school will need to select a school that offers 9th grade.
    • All current preschool students turning 5 years old by October 1 will need to select a school for kindergarten. Preschool students are not automatically enrolled in kindergarten at their current school.
    • Parents/guardians want to transfer students to a new school within Mapleton Public Schools

We do our very best to place your child in your first-choice school. However, if we are unable to place your child in your first-choice school, we will make every effort to place your child in your second or third choice school. If you would like to place your child on a waitlist for your first choice school, please contact the Welcome Center, 303.853.1780. Visit our Welcome Center, 8990 York St., Thornton, for help with the online application or to submit documents in person.

Step 3: Succeed

Once you have received notification of placement, visit your new school to start your educational journey in Mapleton!

New applicants during the school year:

Online applicants - The Welcome Center will review the application. Once all the required documents have been received the Welcome Center will send an email to the parent/guardian confirming school placement and next steps in completing registration at the school.

In-person applicants (at the Welcome Center) - Parents/guardians are welcome to complete either the online application or paper application in person at the Welcome Center. All required documents should be submitted when the application is completed. Parents/guardians will receive a confirmation form to take to the school to complete the registration process.
