As many of you are aware, the current conditions of Valley View’s facilities are unacceptable. We have the beginnings of an amazing new design for a new facility that we intend to build as soon as we secure the additional funding. As we worked on the new design, we also discussed several options for the students and teachers as soon as next year.
To that end, we will be closing Valley View at the end of this school year. The building is simply unsuitable and will be demolished over the summer. We will submit a Building Excellent Schools Today (BEST) grant for consideration in February 2019. If we are awarded the grant, we plan to rebuild and reopen the “New View” in the near future.
All Valley View families are invited to transition to Trailside Academy, a brand-new preschool through eighth grade building located on 68th Avenue and Zuni Street, in the Midtown neighborhood. This building is currently under construction and will open in August 2019.
The Valley View staff will be moving over to the new building to open Trailside Academy.
Current students and their siblings will be automatically registered to attend Trailside Academy. If, however, you are interested in attending another school in our District your children will have priority.
Ms. Laura Nelson, a veteran educator and leader in Mapleton will be taking over as the Director of Valley View on beginning November 1, 2018. Ms. Nelson has been identified to open Trailside Academy and has been involved in the design and construction process since the very beginning. Ms. Toni Booth, the current director at Valley View will transition to a new role within Mapleton's Learning Services Department. Please help us welcome Ms. Nelson to Valley View!
