York International School is launching its third year of the Girls on the Run program virtually. This week coaches, students and their parents met for their first virtual meeting. Girls on the Run is an after-school program that is designed to inspire girls of all abilities to recognize and embrace their inner strength. Lessons emphasize the important connection between physical and emotional health. Through safety modifications and virtual programming, dedicated and trained staff are ready to adapt to local community needs.
York’s Girls on the Run program serves 3rd – 5th grade girls. Coaches Lizzie Fields and Mandee Morgan have been with the program since it began at York. At the end of the program, girls complete a 5K, which provides a tangible sense of accomplishment, setting a confident and goal-oriented mindset into motion. Evidence shows that Girls on the Run unlocks the power and potential participants need to lead an emotionally and physically healthy life.
